The Legacy of Smokey

Smokey's on the Gorge is one of several restaurants within the Adventures on the Gorge Resort. Its location is ideal for guests visiting the New River Gorge, since the restaurant is perched right on the edge of the site. This provides guests with breathtaking views in this wood-paneled lodge. The restaurant is named after one of the Area's bus driver extraordinaire, Dana "Smokey" Morton. The restaurant opened in 1986 and only two years later, in 1988, Smokey passed away. Some people in the area still remember Smokey and his legacy still lives on in not only the community's heart, but in the rustic restaurant.

The restaurant is a buffet, but unlike others it does not seek to serve a lot of general food, but they unique flavors of the area. Their breakfast buffet offers all the classics to get guests fueled for the whitewater rafting or other adventures for the day. Their bacon especially is famous among the surrounding community. Their dinner buffet is elevated by their diverse, but quality wine list. They also have a full bar for their guest to get their favorite cocktail or even non-alcoholic beverage.

The dinner menu begins at 5 pm. Their appetizers include delicious menu items such as Lump Crab Spoon Bread as well as Fried Pork Lollipops. Some of their more popular entrees include Beach Tea Rubbed Quail, Corn and Sun-Dried Tomato Crusted Rainbow Trout, and their most popular signature bone-in ribeye steak. For those with a sweet tooth the restaurant serves flourless chocolate torte, the classic apple cobbler with vanilla ice cream, and a specially selected cheesecake of the day.

Whatever your tastes are Smokey on the Gorge is a must visit for those visiting the New River Gorge. It provides truly unique tastes and an unforgettable legacy. A legacy born from a love and admiration of Smokey and the surrounding community. That love is put into every dish and drink served at this cozy and rustic eatery.
